Join the gang on December 16th at Pine Camp for the LAST trail work day of 2023. Park your butt somewhere near Forest Lawn Drive (or in the parking lot) near Roy West Park, and meet us at the large rocks blocking the old fire road. Wear warm clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty and bring sturdy work gloves. Tools provided.
BONUS FEATURE: bring a change of clothes and your mountain bike and lets rip the rest of the Pine Camp trails after our work day! We’ll also head to the elusive Highland Park trails for a figure-eight loop. Watch the MTNCAT instagram for a route drop, we’ll be going at a good clip and its easy to get lost back there!
Its that time of year again, these cooler crisp mornings mean that hot coffee is BACK baby….although I guess it never really left…
We’re teaming up with Ride with GPS again to host another RICHMOND edition of #coffeeoutside on Saturday, October 4th, at 9am. Meet us at the Forest Hill Park stone round house (the one beside the lake!!!) with your favorite coffee brewing kit, beans, grounds, water, filters…you know the dealio. We’re hoping to have a little fireplace ripping, bring a little firewood if you have any to spare!
If you’ve never been to a Coffee Outside before, we hope you can join us for this one! Basically, like minded folks get together to ride/run/hike/paddle in and make coffee together – OUTSIDE! We pick a favorite park space, tell everyone we know, and hope that they bring a friend.
If you’re missing part of a coffee kit, you’re in luck! Most of our Richmond pals are real sweet and they’ll probably share with you – but here’s what to consider packing with you: -coffee beans and a grinder, or pre-grind at home -water -a camp stove, fuel for it – and a pot for boiling water -your favorite coffee brewing device (aeropress, pour over, cowboy coffee – it all works!)
If you’re extra, you’ll bring a little something to share – I like to bake treats or bring a shareable snack. But no pressure, we hope you can simply join in the fun!
Like last year, RWGPS partnered up with some high level sick pups to pass out prizes to each participating city…ranging from cool Miir Coffee Bean Canisters to delicious Coava roasted beans to handy dandy water bottles to replace yer old n moldy ones – we have a box of cool goods to pass out.
When you arrive to the Stone Round House beside the lake at Forest Hill Park, fill out a slip of paper and enter the raffle! We’ll meet at 9am, and draw names for local goodies at 10am.
BUT WAIT! RWGPS has a much larger prize pack for everyone that RSVPs online – and you don’t have to be present to win that one! The button below is your ticket to the BIG prize packs for Int’l Coffee Outside celebration, so don’t forget to clicky below.
The Hunt is OnSaturday, May 31st! The Cutty Cap Challenge is a scavenger hunt where riders follow clues in the app version of Ride With GPS, leading them to collect custom printed cycling caps (and we’re spicing it up by adding some extra prizes to each location.)
This year, the whole contest happens in the app. Open the app and head to the homepage at 8am on Saturday, May 31st to find a treasure map with Richmond Cap locations overlaid – and ride out to find them!
This year, we have a point system where riders can earn additional points for bonus prizes. We’ll award points for: -checking in at Cap locations, even if you don’t get the cap -taking photos -checking in to multiple Cap locations, even if the caps aren’t there anymore – a bonus side quest that will happen randomly during the day and may involve a prize
Tag @cuttycaprichmond so we can repost your adventure, and if you’re extra bold: check out the BIG route we made for you to experience EVERY location – we’ll drop it in our IG stories/link in bio for @cuttycaprichmond AND @mountaincat100 at 8am on the 31st. Expect to ride 50 miles of great “mixed media” – a combo of road, gravel, and singletrack.
MTNCAT BAKE SALE returns on Saturday March 22nd at the Carillon Picnic Shelter from 7am until noon. Be sure to come visit and snag some coffee and treats – our bakers last year were OFF THE CHAIN talented and we are crossing our fingies that they have time this year to join us. Not great at baking? That’s fine! You can make anything and contribute it to the snack shoppe. Last year we had hummus, vegan egg McMuffins, dog treats in addition to baked items. Get creative with it! Make a million tiny pizzas!
Well, honestly, it never really went away we guess, wink emoji.
In scrolling back through our photo log, searching for coffee rides of the last years, we have some pretty great C.O. meetup photos from as far back as 2017 – don’t worry, we know it was happening before that, at campsites, river cuts and everywhere in between. We’re looking forward to partnering up with Ride With GPS to celebrate the larger celebration of #coffeeoutside this year on October 12th, and hope you can jump in! Hit that RSVP below!
In addition to a local prize pack, head to RWGPS to RSVP for the global celebration, which is your free entry to an even BIGGER prize.
Ride leaders will meet you for rollout at 8:30am, and we will arrive at our meetup location at 9:00am. We can’t encourage you ENOUGH to wear your MTNCAT jersey, if you have one. Layer up if you need, we’d love a big group pic of the whole gang sporting their goods.
North of the river, you will meet at the Dogwood Dell Carrillon, a.k.a. the Bell Tower. Plentiful free parking is directly adjacent at Barker Field if you need to drive in.
South of the river, you will meet at the New Kent/42nd Street entrance to Forest Hill Park. Again, plentiful free parking is available in the big lot right there, at Forest Hill Park.
Both rides tackle a 4-ish mile commute. North of the river, expect primarily pavement or very fine, smooth gravel. South of the river, expect quite a bit of gravel, some medium sized and some smooth.
Clicking on the buttons or maps below will take you to Ride With GPS, where you can find the option to meet North or South of the River to join a group ride to the official meetup brew site.
New to coffee outside? Here’s what you need to know, and what’s helpful to bring:
You’ll want to bring your favorite portable brewing device, a small camp stove/jetboil or way to heat water, your favorite beans (ground already?), a hand grinder for beans if you have one, and your mug. Riders will all assemble, enjoy a short commute to a beautiful view, and we’ll enjoy coffee together.
SURPRISE, yall! This week we’re NOT at Pine Camp, the freeze thaw cycle has been extra bad and we’re shifting priority while PC dries a bit.
INSTEAD: meet the crew at the 22nd Street parking lot at 9am (come a little early for coffee) and we’ll head west on the trail to reroute a small section of Buttermilk that not only has a blind turn, but stays wet. If you arrive a little late no big deal, find us basically below 26th street if you’re looking at google maps. See you out there.
Calling all dirt enthusiasts! Its time to fire up thee olde TRAILWORK machine at Pine Camp again, starting with Saturday January 13th. Park your butt somewhere near Forest Lawn Drive (or in the parking lot) near Roy West Park, and meet us at the large rocks blocking the old fire road. Wear warm clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty and bring sturdy work gloves. Tools provided. This will be a recurring Saturday event, unless its actively raining. Coffee at 8:45am, we’ll start making our way to the focus area at 9:00 am. The lunch whistle blows at 12:00, and we’ll wrap up the day. Rumor has it that the Glizzy Guzzlers Gravity Gang hasthag BLEST us with 24 hot doggies, so we’ll be grillin after we work. Buns provided π
Roll up, sign in with a trail crew member, and get ready to receive about a hundred orβso high fives.
Join our SLAYdies squad for a cycling and cycling related equipment swap on Wednesday January 10th, from 6:30-8pm. The Cary Street location of Carytown Bikes has graciously agreed to host us (THANKS CLARENCE), but you’ll want to make sure you come in the back alley entrance. That front door will be locked, y’all, and noone will hear your cries.
Bring any gently used unwanted gear with you and celebrate the new year with us while you trade or simply snag some hand-me-downs. While we are really aiming for cycling soft goods, accessories, or bike related bits, we know that there are a lot of outdoor activities that are really cycling-adjacent, so feel free to bring those goods too. Camping, hiking, running…things like that. Space is limited, so this is not the opportunity to bring: whole bikes, roof racks, or big equipment. You don’t have to bring anything to attend, so save that date now, and come meet the squad.
Anything remaining at the end of the night will be donated to Rag and Bones.
